Blogmas Day 1 - What opportunities will you create?

December has finally arrived and the whiplash this year has given me is beginning to subside. I could probably drone on and on about how I wish I had spent more of my year writing like I initially intended to, but instead Iâll take this chance to wax poetic about opportunities.
This morning I watched a video on TikTok (Yeah, boo, hiss. I know) where musician Leslie Odom Jr. talked about a time when a mentor in his life asked him what he did on the days where âthe phone wasnât ringingâ or when opportunities werenât coming his way. This made me think about all the moments when I sat around and waited for something great to happen to me when I literally wasnât doing anything for something great to find me. Which then threw me into a spiral about this blog and my writing life at large. I have big aspirations to be a published author one day. But instead of writing and publishing my work, I make lists of ideas I never flesh out, write short stories that never see the light of day, and quietly stew as I read other writers' work and wonder why their success doesnât find me.
What have I done on the days the phone doesnât ring? Canât say Iâve done much. The only way to turn that around is to start again. So here it goes...welcome to my version of Blogmas! The rules (well really one rule): I will write a new post every day for 25 days. I donât have any prompts as of right now but they may emerge as I keep writing. The goal here is to create momentum and keep going. No more stalling waiting for the phone to ring.
See you tomorrow!
