Welcome to the garden

Blogmas Day 11 - Blogmas so far

Ten days have come and gone and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised I haven’t lost steam in posting for this challenge. Sure, there have been a few days where the words have not come easy and the urge to not post at all crept into the dark recesses of my subconscious. But during those moments I reminded myself that even if what I posted was short, it was all about getting in the reps. I’m on a journey to find my writerly voice and it’s not something I can find by reading about it. I have to actually, well, write. So in honor of keeping the streak alive, here are the lessons I’ve learned so far from posting everyday for 10 days.

Lesson 1: Poke the bear.

If I only write when I absolutely feel like it, I can guarantee that I won’t become a published author in this lifetime. So instead of sitting around waiting for inspiration to strike, I had to go out and stir it up. Sometimes it works and I end up writing I’m really proud of. Sometimes I end up with a couple of paragraphs. What matters is that I wrote at all.

Lesson 2: You don’t have to do it like everyone else.

There are so many amazing bloggers and writers floating around on the internet and sometimes it’s hard not to want to do it the way they do. But the fun part about finding what makes your writing and process uniquely yours is discovering how it’s different from what you’re used to seeing.

Lesson 3: Being challenged can be fun.

Nerd alert! In all seriousness though, the real challenge has been keeping my word to myself. Not to be dramatic, but I have a feeling my writing life is going to be very different after these 25 days are up.

If by chance you haven’t been silently following me and either rooting for me to keep going or waiting for me to post one of those “well, I missed a day” posts, here’s a recap of the first 10 days of blogmas.
